By now NC CCRG (Career- and College-Ready Graduates) Program  (House Bill 97, 2015 Session) is hopefully on your radar. Implementation of this legislation is underway and, as currently written, will be fully implemented by Fall of 2018. Please Note: CCRG implementation could be subject to a delayed implementation. Will advise as soon as we have confirmation of any revised timing.

This years rising seniors could be affected by this legislation, if by the Fall of 2018, they have not :

(a) obtained a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher; or

(b) exceeded minimum ACT benchmark scores of: Math 22, Reading 22, and English 18 in order to be deemed a Career- and College-Ready Graduate; or

(c)  meet or exceeded a 530 SAT Math score or 480 SAT Verbal score.

Students who do not meet either of these criteria (a), (b) or (c) must take remedial coursework their senior year. Remedial courses will not affect graduation, but must be satisfactorily completed prior to taking credit-bearing college coursework.

How can students meet CCRG Benchmarks?

  • Bringing Cumm GPA up to 2.8 or above will not be easy. For example, if you have a 2.2 Cumm GPA through your Sophomore year, you would need to carry a 4.0 GPA through your Junior year to meet the 2.8 cumulative GPA requirement.

  • A second and in our view better option is to meet ACT or SAT Readiness Benchmarks.  The February 27, 2018, is the first official opportunity for all juniors in NC to post these scores.  Yes, the ACT will help you get into college, but now, the ACT will can also help you stay out of remedial classes your senior year!

For 2017-2018 Juniors, time is of the essence!!  After February 27, opportunities to exceed ACT benchmarks are April 14, June 9, and July 14. NEXT ACT BOOTCAMP begins April 7. Next SAT Seminar begins on April 10th and next SAT Bootcamp is on Saturday, April 28th.

You’ve learned the skills at school.  Now is the time to apply them through critical reading and critical thinking while taking the ACT.  If you miss an ACT benchmark, CapEd Seminars and BootCamps will help you focus and sharpen the skills to help you get over the top. Otherwise you will be subject to remedial coursework second semester of you senior year instead coasting to the finish line and the college of your choice.
