GMAT/GRE

Graduate School Admissions exams. Ready to get ahead on your graduate school goals?

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) Exam

The GMAT is a computer adaptive test (CAT) that is self-scheduled at a test center of your choosing.  Allow yourself 10-12 weeks of intense practice and review, as the question content is similar to content for the ACT and SAT.  The Quantitative Reasoning uses a lot of Algebra and Geometry that for many are skills not used in a number of years.  The Verbal Reasoning tests content of Critical Reading, Grammar and Punctuation, and Vocabulary that also may be rusty.  Treat your preparation like any “class” by finding resources, scheduling daily study and practice time, and above all, the discipline to work diagnostic tests to find strengths and weaknesses.

capED Test Prep strongly encourages candidates to maintain a very consistent schedule working and correcting problems that allow students to find the question styles in need of attention.  Use the missed problems to relearn “lost” skills.  Most candidates do not have the luxury of retaking math classes which is why capED Test Prep uses diagnostic tests to hyper-focus on the remediation in order to garner the highest scores!

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Exam

The GRE is a computer adaptive test (CAT) that is self-scheduled at a test center of your choosing.  A strong preparatory program is ideal as the content on the GRE is similar to the content on the ACT and SAT exams.  Candidates should allow for a 10-12 weeks period to diagnose, prepare and study, attempt hundreds of practice problems from retired GRE exams, in order to fully understand the challenge. The GRE has traditionally been the exam for “most” graduate school programs (not professions schools), but in recent years has made headway into both Business and Law schools admissions as a good overall test of a candidates preparedness.  The biggest mistake most candidates make is not allowing enough time and really disciplining the daily preparation necessary to pass the exam, but also be prepared for the immersion back into a scholarly environment.  This exam is required for admission to many programs, but it can give the candidate insight as to how disciplined the program will be.

What We Do

For both the GMAT and GRE, we mostly offer Individual programs and work with candidates 1-on-1. Using previous score reports and/or diagnostic practice exams, our initial work is to find the strengths and weakness very early in the preparation period.  As retaking math and grammar classes as preparation is never an option, we utilize practice materials to drill into a candidate’s academics, experiences, and proficiencies to hyper-focus the teaching of skills and content.  Concurrent with the remedial portions of the programs is an infusion of the soft-skills necessary to get the score you want and need.  Pacing and timing, “skipping” questions to use a “letter of the day,” and MOST IMPORTANTLY, being able to read and analyze a question in real time to decide to attack the problem (get the correct answer), or “skip” it to manage the limited time allowed for each problem.  Many candidates run out of time on the first sitting and hence get a low score.  The way a candidate prepares is as important as the raw skills and knowledge tested on Graduate School Admission tests.
